There seems to be alot of ppl that truly do not understand what it means to kill steal or be the one getting you kills "stolen". I've noticed, many players, noobies especially, don't quite understand it and will flood guild chat or whispers with "quit ksing" or "make XXXX stop ks'ing me" or will even KS without even realizing what they've done.

Definition

Kill stealing, or KS'ing is generally thought of as stealing the "rewards" (ie. gold, mets, DBs, etc) from monsters that other players were fighting, but you're also stealing XP as well.


Basics

Kill stealing is basically attacking a mob when another player is fighting with that mob. If a player is fighting, then flees, and the mob is no longer fighting anyone, it's fair- game for anyone to kill the mob. Although it is considered rude.

I don't mean they used a scroll or hopped several hops I mean they stopped fighting and hopped a couple hops away (ie Trojan regaining stamina for Spirit Healing, Tao using meditation, etc)


Causes

Desire:

They want what your getting. If they see you have mets and Dbs drops, they think that by moving into your area and killing "your" monsters they will recieve the same drops or types of drops..

Annoying/ Show Off:

Some do it just to be annoying and to try to show you how "powerful" they are. Think of it as a "power-trip", most of us have done it either knowing, or unknowingly at least a few times in the game ourselves. "I'm higher level than you, look at what I can do", is the phrase that comes to mind.

Why It's Bad

Making Enemies

It's very easy to make enemies, or get yourself killed from kill stealing, because you felt the need to prove you were more "powerful", than the person that was trying to get the kills/xp. What you need to realize is that, the person behind the keyboard may not be the "noobie" you thought they were and bring a high lvl alt. (alternate) character or friends to get revenge. It's easier to "showoff", when your not running for your life.

XP Loss

Have you ever noticed that besides the regular xp you get from fighting, you get additional points for "killing" as well? However small it may seem over the course over hundreds of levels that amount adds up.

XP Skills

XP skills, such as SM (Superman) and Cyclone require you to be the person that kills in order for your skill to rapidly fill back up. By "stealing" the kill of these characters, your lessening their ability to use their skills as well and causing them to not gain as much xp as they normally would.

Items

I talked a little about this before. If you did not start fighting a monster, or get it to a weakened state, rightfully you should not pick up the items it drops. Yes, you may have "killed" it, but in the process you stoled someone elses xp and items. While it may not seem like a big deal, at low levels it can mean a huge difference in the amount of money a player makes, remember not everyone started fully socketed and warehouses full of met scrolls. And if your anything like me, you've fought through the middle levels, with mostly normal/refined/unique gear saving up for good items later on. Ganoderma and Titan also are very good examples, both have fairly high hp and require some work to kill, becuase you landed the killing shot and have a chance for the xp potion they may drop, doesn't mean that it's rightfully yours to take. The right thing to do would be give the person that did the most damage some money or some items that could be sold, afterall they did the "work" and you were just "lucky".

Kill Counts

I won't go too deep into this, but some players believe that the higher their kill count, the higher chance they have of finding better items. I personally don't have anything to say one way or the other for certainty but it is possible, or may just be wishful thinking. It's not up to you to decide for them and you may have consequences for actions, by "kill stealing" these types of players.


What To Do

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot that can be done about, unless TQ decides to add new features, such as only the person/team that started attacking gains xp/kills and only that person/team could pick up items. No matter if a non-team member killed it. That would stop alot of the "kill-stealing", if you weren't able to pick up the item because you didn't have the first attack, but that in itselfs could back fire by archers using scatter to attract mobs that no one else could kill or get items from.

All I can really say is be polite, don't steal kills or be prepared for what may happen.

-WRONG!! Any class can KS, it is however archers that are the culprits most of the time, especially true of high lvl power-leveling archers in Bird Island or Adventure Zone. But also high level Trojans/Warriors/Taoists can/do aswell.

Thing is alot of the time archers can't help ksing because arrows shoot offscreen =x, it's annoying for the archers to as they often miss out on mets alot and some noob comes and loots it -.-

I agree it is hard for an archer to know where their arrows go, but 1 suggestion is try playing on a war/tro and watch how frustrated you can get, especially at a lower lvl, when your xp skill starts, you're hitting, hitting then *poof* your monsters are dead. it has made me change the way I play..

I play my warrior mostly so at lower levels I know how frustraiting it can be.

However I do sympathise with archer because they don't always mean to KS's. Arrow go way off screen sometime.

Yes i do know how annoying it is as i have tros/warriors myself but theres nothing we can do about it.
And ya it's just as annoying being an archer when trojans pk you all the time for no reason other than because they can.
Oh and pisses me off more when a trojan/warrior ks's me as they do it on purpose just wanna kill them.

When I'm on my warr, I usually try not to steal kill while using SM as I know I dont like being KS myself, but like wayward arrows, it's hard to control what you hit, esp with rage or snow.

KS'ing is bad but most archers can't help but do it... Its like a skill to take advantage of on the class your using... Of course archers are gonna scatter... Plus the arrows that go off screen really isn't our fault... Would you blame a fire tao for using nado/FoH/etc? Or maybe blame a troj for using 2 weapons? of course not. its the advantage of each class... I do understand its annoying for other classes trying to lvl and such...

I have a Troj>archer so I know both sides of the story... Also I have a noob warrior and smily face a few posts up was plvling at BI while I was trying to lvl my warrior... Did I get mad? No... She can blame me for using Superman just as much as I can blame her for scattering... its a skill to be taken advantage of when using that class...

I know KS'ing is bad but please look at it from the archers position...

Non-English (Especially Egyptians and BR's) people should read this thread so they will finally stop spamming "KS" when all I do is tell them that I don't want to buy their shit.

Another tip is, when someone comes in, you're not very likely to successfully convince them to stop KSing you by saying something similar as "Stop KSing."

So if you want to be successful in keeping your spawn without getting KSing, ask them nicely.

That or log in to your 2nd rb 250+ potency trojan and pk them... But seeing how I don't have one... asking nicely would be good idea....
